Number cruncher by day, miniature painter by night!  D&D Gamer Geek and proud of it!

Also, note that for some reason, on a Mac (at least for me), it will let me expand my posts, while on a PC, I see the "..." that indicates that there IS more to the post, but it won’t let me click on it!

So if you see a “...” at the bottom of my entries (which you will a lot, I assure you), try to click on it.  If you can’t, go to the entry name on the left side of the webpage and click on it; otherwise you’ll likely be missing pictures! Nooooo!

Thought I’d disappeared, did you?

Well....I did.

But I’m back!  With pictures!

As you may or may not know, I am part of a D&D group.  One of my friend's characters is able to summon a Shadow Steed.  It's supposed to have all the color sucked out of it -- it's essentially a horse made only of shadow.

I paint minis, so he asked me to pick up a figurine for his Shadow Steed.  Although it's supposed to be all made of shadow, he said, it would be AWESOME if I could paint it up like the Death Knight horses from World of Warcraft (see ...

Less WoW, more painting! [12/04 12:42PM]

So I've finally decided to free myself - at least in part! - from the timesink that is World of Warcraft. Oh, I'm still on there at night, but only after I've spent a good part of the night writing or drawing or painting. Move my actual passions and crafts forward, move WoW back.

And it's working well so far. I try to take an hour's walk in the evenings for exercise, during which time I brainstorm for a story that is slowly building in my head, and then I go home and either continue reading on How To Make Money Writing For A Living, or write, or paint minis....

For Christmas, I gave my mother two minatures: Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax from Micro Art Studios; they had JUST come out with a line of Discworld minis, and those are her two favorite characters.  Perfect Christmas Gift.

Unfortunately, the amount of time I had to assemble, sculpt, and paint was short.  I did what I could in the time that I could, and I feel they came out all right.  Mom loved them, and that’s what important. ;)  (At least that’s what I’m making myself believe; I have that artist’s self-criticism: “Well, what if I was to just, yanno, do it over...?  Make it look better...”)

Whew.  Been some time.

I am pleased to say, though, that I have finally finished my Carnivean!  He’s actually been done for about a week now, but I haven’t had much time to stick him in my light cube and photograph him.

My photography skills are still lacking, I fear.  But the photo quality is improved all the same!  Yay light cube!

   The Carnivean Continues! [18/08 10:35PM]

A’right!  Time for the next in the series of Carnivean: The Adventure!

So, my friend wants the Carnivean to be colored, essentially, the way you see him on the box.  So that makes his skin white, white, WHITE.  Not Pale Elf Flesh. WHITE.  I even read up on how Privateer Press paints their Carniveans: They use pure white for the skin and then shade with an ice blue.  Now, I’ve painted an albino before, but this would be quite different.  First, there was still a hint of life in the albino’s cheeks -- I used a tiny wash of warm (but light!) fleshtone to counter the cold of her near-white skin.  The Carnivean?  Pure white, none of this “near-white” stuff.  Second, and more important, the albino?  Tiny little human figure.  The Carnivean?  BIG.  And LOTS of flesh to paint.
