I am a great starter of projects but absolutely rubbish at ever finishing anything.

Its time to restart this blog, so changes are coming in the new year.

  1. Week 21: Skeletons and the World cup

OK; lets face facts. I'm not going to get a lot of painting completed between now and the end of Englands participation in the 2010 World Cup. At the moment it looks as if that might come to pass sooner than later...

Over the last weekend I have managed to watch 12 solid hours of football and another two hours of motor racing Ouch.

In between I have managed to finish my final skeleton figures. This makes a total of 52 Skeletons, which allows for 30 starting ...
  2. Mantic Games skeletons

Mantic Games were kind enough to send my wargaming club a selection of sprues for our fun and delight. Included within these sprues were two skeleton sprues. I'm currently working on a Vampire counts list (or two) so it seemed too good an opportunity to pass up. Partly because it will give me some variety, partly because it will let me know what I think of their range but mostly because they are free figures!

I opted to just try the single sprue, ...
  3. week 19: A mini zombie horde

Whilst I appreciate that zombies are supposed to travel around in massive packs, everyone has to start somewhere. I have started by own zombie horde with a modest collection of 10 zombies. Even the most generous person would be stretching a point to call 10 a horde, but these are the first ever zombies I have painted so please give me a little latitude.

These guys are a mixture of empire militia and zombie models. I opted to go for grey as a skin colour because I thought ...
  4. Week 18: The grave gets a guard

The previous week was a disaster with only shields to show for a weeks effort, so this week I am pleased to report that I have managed to finish a complete unit of figures....

The colour scheme has been chosen to match units of skeletons that I have already completed. This means green, green and more green. I opted to keep the greens on the shields and the clothing quite dark with little in the way of highlights. The reason for this is that I wanted the swords ...
  5. Week 17: A failure

I have to report my first week of failure this year in week 17 of my task. This week I was trying to paint up 15 grave guard, but I have failed to finish a single figure. I experienced problems getting the sword colours looking  as I would like.

In fact the only components I have managed to finish painting are the shields. I choose to use dark elf shields because I thought that these would give the unit the look I was after.

Sorry about the lack of anything ...
  6. Week 16: Bat swarms

This weekend has been our clubs annual show (Legionary 2010) so it has been a bit tricky to fit painting around all the work that a show requires. The show was at a new venue and I think it was a qualified success. Although it was at a smaller venue than normal, it was in the centre of the city and therefore more amenable for those without cars. Parking was difficult, which affected the traders most significantly. Our club is currently reviewing whether hosting a show is worth all the effort. ...
  7. Week 15: Ghouls out for summer

The sun has well and truely arrived in Exeter and to mark the event I have now passed 50 ghouls painted.

These bad boys are starting to look pretty good on masse, even if I do say so myself..

Another 15 painted this week, including a Crpt ghoul ghast.

The Crypt ghoul ghast has been converted up using the body of an Empire Flagulent. I think that I have lent the head too far back, but apart from that I ...
  8. Week 14: ghouly gathering

I'm back painting after a weeks break and its a return to an old favourite. In my opinion Crypt ghouls are just such great figures. I love the look of rushing forward with the manic look on the faces and the grasping grabbing hands. Also in a sad, way I love their little back sides!!

I had quite a problem when I started painting these because I had forgotten the colour scheme that was used with my previous ghouls. For my own future reference I used a base coat of ...
  9. Week 13: Slaanesh Marauder horsemen

For some reason I find painting cavalry figures far more time consuming than I ever imagine that they will be. This week I have painted my second box of slaanesh Maruader horsemen.

The general idea is that I will end up with three units of slaanesh cavalry armed with throwing spears and with only light armour. This maintains the fast cavalry ability and enables my mages to move around the battlefield within a unit that will not panic.

  10. Week 12; One slice of Cow or two?

It has spent some time on the back burner, but at long last the Varghulf is complete. Apologies to goblin1980 for obviously ripping off his idea, but it looked so nice that I wanted to have a go...

This is the first time I have tried to create anything imaginative with GWs water effects and I found it a lot easier than I thought it would be. The blood / gore effect was created by wrapping two small lengths of fuse wire around the painted claw so that ...
