A blog describing my experiences taking up an old hobby, and how it fits into my new life. (That, and whatever else comes up in my little mind... )

  1. Sharing

My 13 year old tried her hand at painting, but decided it was too hard. I have to admit she doesn't have as much time as the rest of the family. Her hockey takes up alot of time. She did surprise me by deciding to try her hand at pottery, but she hasn't shown me any of her work yet though. I'm pleased enough with her making regional selects in hockey and managing to keep her grades up above a 3.5. The 7 year old on the other hand is definatly sharing the love of painting. I have put her ...

  2. Never give up and always learn!

Well, I'm learning alot. We'll see how my new information turns out. My 7 year old daughter decided not to have me put her things on until she does an actual mini, so she's starting on one tomorrow. I may just put her progress on here. I have to say there were a few minis put on here by a parent of a talented 5 and 7 year old that inspired her to bring her game up. She actually sat through an entire hour long tutorial on painting! I'm also relisting my Tomb King. I like him, and I'd ...

  3. Arrrgggg!!!

I have my tomb king done - I love the way he turned out. The only problem I have is that I can't get the guy to stand up! I've used super glue and it isn't doing a thing.

  4. Like mother - like daughter.

My youngest daughter has decided she likes to paint too. Considering her age (7) she down't do too badly either. I will be posting a picture of her most recent creation when I get home from work. She wanted me to post it for voting, I told her when she was doing smaller more detailed ones that we could look at that, but I would put it on my blog for all to see. I finished up my blood wolf and am working on the Jackal headed guy now. I think he's looking pretty good so far, but I have a lot of detailing ...

  5. Failure... for now.

I was working on my elves and was reminded that it is not particularly easy to get skin right. I'm going to have to strip them and retry soon. I ended up getting a blood wolf from Legends, just to make myself feel better. My husband and I both ended up getting sick, him more than myself. I ended up spending a great deal of time taking care of him, and the remainder of the time being more tired than I have been in a long time. Tonight is really the first night I've felt like painting in several days. ...

  6. Another one done! (Still in the back in the saddle stage)

I finished the chaos demon. What fun! I hope that my skill has increased enough that this gets a slightly better reception. I worked hard at getting the blending and the shading right, and went to you tube to take some lessons. I love the internet! I think I am going to work on making more lifelike faces next, especially since my next ones have lifelike faces to work on. The portable studio really helped me out alot, and having the ground cover definately makes it look alot more polished. ...

  7. Woo! I got more tools!

It was payday today! That means I got a few new colors of paints, and some washes. I also got the dullcote stuff, and yes, even ground cover. I also got some new minis to paint. Hopefully I can increase my scores with the proper tools and with the new information I got from the Chameleons and from the forums. I have to say, everybody has been very helpful in sharing their wisdom about the way the acrylic based paints work.

  8. Making a comeback?

This isn't as easy as I remember it. I put my first minis in about 17 years on the site today, and they turned out okay. Not nearly as detailed as I remember. I underestimated the necessity of a primer and didn't get it thick enough. The acrylic paint is a completely different consistancy for me to work with, and when I mix small amounts I have to hurry to get the paint on the mini  before it dries. I think next paycheck I will have to invest in some inks and some more colors than ...
