Various ramblings on the epic tasks of creating two completely unique armies, and the various side projects to paint and sell she embarks upon.

The two armies are Chaos Daemons (40k) and Eldar. What makes them unusual is that the Chaos Daemons are Obscuras daemons (for the last time I didn't make him up) and the Eldar are Wood Eldar (Exodites but not jungle/Lustria based), basically Wood Elves in space. Daemons are my first army, but the Wood Eldar are unique in that each model is a complete mish mash of various bitz and lots of green stuff, and each one is completely unique.

  1. Stripping Whispers

Well, I finally got around to stripping the two already painting Whispers in preparation for my colour changes/updates and general (hopefully) upgrading of my models.
As the models are metal, I use a cheap acetone-based nail varnish remover. My models had several layers of paint on them, along with a gloss varnish and then matt. I left them in the acetone for 24 hours and then carefully peeled the paint off the models. It comes off fairly easily, but I wouldn't recommend scrubbing as it just ...
  2. Whispers Skin - Testers

Have been starting my painting with the beautiful Whispers, finally finishing a unit will be a big deal for me . However, their previous skin-tone is very monochrome (Fortress Grey, Badab Black Wash, Codex Grey, Skull White) and I was hoping to put some colour into it. Observer suggested purples and blues and this struck a chord, while my boyfriend suggested I use flesh tones as the interim so the blue would have a greater contrast.
So far, I have only done washes over Fortress Grey: ...
  3. Fiends Conversion

Considering doing a new daemons of Obscuras conversion, this time for the Fiends, so I can have a valid army list for normal Warhammer 40k!The Fiends are quick and lethal with rending attacks. Inspiration struck in the form of the Steed of Slaanesh from the Slaanesh Champion box and the new Ravener's plastic box. By these powers combined, I give you a quick Photoshop of what the resulting models would look like, with suitable change of colour scheme.Daemonette bodies, Ravener (Tyranids) tails. Heavy ...
  4. Whisper (Daemonettes on Steeds of Slaanesh) Bases

Well, some of the Whispers have been based and finished, ready for base-coating, so here they are. I went for a rubble and destroyed urban feel for the bases. I recently ordered some of the new Forge World weathering powders so will probably be using a lot of the concrete dust effects when I paint them.Like a lot of painters, I look at the painting on my older figures and cringe. Unfortunately I don't want to strip these models become they did come out so well at the time. Still unsure, do you think ...
  5. Setting Up a Hobby Space

Firstly, apologies if this seems a bit rushed, but I finished this article once already and then in the act of posting, Google Chrome ate my post and it vanished into the ether. A couple of days later, now that I’ve stopped fuming, I sit down to rewrite it – hopefully better than ever before! In September I moved to Dundee, moving in with my boyfriend and getting a nice two-bedroom flat. But we only needed one bedroom, so the other room got turned into a hobby room. Setting up a dedicated ...
  6. Update!

Sorry not to have said anything earlier about all this. The course is going fine, and we have finally sorted out the hobby room and bought a table! I got a new fancy camera with macro functionality and we have a big window so hopefully there will be some much better pictures from now on. Sneak preview of some things that should be coming up:-Article on the set-up of a hobby space.Daemons on their new urban overdone bases.Green of a converted Forgeworld Greater Daemon of Slaanesh.Painting step-by-step ...
  7. Moving!

Hello,I know my update schedule is.. umm... dreadful. However, there is plenty left to do, except I am moving to Dundee early September to do a Masters there. As such, everything is packed up, and there will be no modelling or painting done until mid-to-late September. See you later!
  8. My Pathfinders

As my Wood Eldar army are completely converted and almost primitive and bow-themed, I took for my main troops to the upgraded rangers, aka the Pathfinders.I used Wood Elf models as the base, mixed with Eldar Guardians. The torso and legs were cut at all the joints and then pinned with bent wire to put them in the correct positions. Then wood-elf heads with hoods, plus cloaks and arms were added to the models. I added a small power cable from the armlet to the bow to add an element of technology ...
  9. Obscuras Daemons - Warhammer 40k Army List

I know that this Blog is under Painting/Modelling, however I am going to go off-topic again just to add in my current 1,500 point army list for 40k. As I have a terrible memory, I like to have everything written down and the rules set out after my army list, for that time I get Aura of Acquiescence mixed up with Transfixing Gaze (like the last time I played :P) or can't remember what Furious Charge does again.Warning: This is long.------DAEMONS OF OBSCURAS ARMY LIST

  10. The To Do List

Partly for my own reference, and for anyone who reads this to look forward to, a short list of things that I need to finish doing on my Obscuras Daemons army. I will write up a similar list for Wood Eldar sometime. The side-projects can go hang until I get really bored .Get the last few models that I need for my army: 1 Screamer, 1 Seeker of Slaanesh and 2 Horrors.Funnily enough, I managed to get a single Seeker, who have been as rare as gold recently (and going at similar prices), and a ...
