Best Christmas present ever!

I've been painting since about 1998, traditionally a lot of 40k stuff but lately I've been doing a lot of work with Fantasy and the odd little side project here and there. I don't game as much as I'd like, and I don't paint as much as I'd like either... but I make up for this by purchasing way more models than I ought to!

I make an effort to try new things once in a while, and every once in a while I'll actually finish something. My current project is the Warriors of Chaos, it's an attempt at doing a 2,000pt army in under 6 weeks for the Fracas tournament here in Edmonton. A $100 ticket should give me motivation to get my army done on time, I would love some tournament trophies to add to my painting awards :-) After that, who knows what I'll be up to!

Psychology of Aesthetics... cool class, big projects
(0) comments,   (0) trackbacks

Just thought I'd keep you guys posted about how things are going so far... I'm happy with the progress so far with my big project for Uni, but it's still gonna take up pretty much all my day off tomorrow. Shame too, I was looking forward to sneaking some painting in there.

I currently have to finish up some more sketches and then do one more polished work (a portrait) for my creative project, documenting the process as I go and then doing an additional 4 pages of critical analysis of the artwork and/or my creative process. Right now I have about a half dozen sketches finished and 4 pages of commentary written up. All my reference photos are printed out and waiting by my desk, so it's just a matter of sitting down for an hour or two and doing some more portrait work. My goal is to be working on the analysis by supper time, because it's all super easy once I get the sketches over with....

Remembrance Day

Hey everyone, I just wanted to take a quick timeout from the mini painting thing and say a few quick words.

Today we remember those who fought for us over the years. Regardless of political preferences, conflicting viewpoints or anything of the sort, we can't forget the thousands of people who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces.

Thank you to everyone who has risked their lives to defend something they believe in, I really do appreciate the security that we have here in Canada. God bless, and I hope for a safe return for everyone currently in conflict zones....

Who says the government never does anything good...

Heh just got another letter in the mail from the City of Edmonton (my summer employers). Apparently they did a vacation pay correction to the sum of $600 on Tuesday. They keep paying me long after I quit, how nice of them! Between the government's generosity and the $90 I got back selling Rhinos out of my Battle Company box, I've had the entire thing paid for (and then some). Not a bad break at all...

That also brings the grand total of income tax for the year officially above $3000, and since I'm a student I'll get all of that back in the spring. Ka-ching!...

Blood Ravens Color Recipes

I've been asked what colors I used on my Captain, so I guess this is the best place to post :) Nice and public so everyone can see it. Here's the newest shot, with a bit more work done. Mostly on the chest and shield.

The armor was done with P3 Sanguine Base, shaded with a wash or two of my Scorched Brown/Black mixture. I then hilighted with Scab Red, Red Gore, then Red Gore with a bit of Fiery Orange in it. All hilights were feathered to keep it smooth without having to do a ton of mixing....

Reading Material

Just a quick note before I'm off to bed: if at all possible try to avoid reading Trainspotting on a deadline... I had to read half of it in one evening to allow me to get on with my research paper and it was not a fun experience. Decent enough book I suppose, but reading it is something of am uphill battle. Phonetic Scottish slang isn't the easiest thing in the world to read quickly.

Anyway it's 2:18am and I have class at 10:00 so I'm gonna bugger off for a few days. Hopefully when I emerge from my cave I'll be ready to tackle some more painting projects :)...
