Best Christmas present ever!

I've been painting since about 1998, traditionally a lot of 40k stuff but lately I've been doing a lot of work with Fantasy and the odd little side project here and there. I don't game as much as I'd like, and I don't paint as much as I'd like either... but I make up for this by purchasing way more models than I ought to!

I make an effort to try new things once in a while, and every once in a while I'll actually finish something. My current project is the Warriors of Chaos, it's an attempt at doing a 2,000pt army in under 6 weeks for the Fracas tournament here in Edmonton. A $100 ticket should give me motivation to get my army done on time, I would love some tournament trophies to add to my painting awards :-) After that, who knows what I'll be up to!

This could be a really boring night. I'm done backing everything up, just need to burn one last CD with some drivers and updates on it to speed things up later. Pretty soon I'll have XP Pro (with a legit license key this time) and hopefully things will be just peachy. The only thing I'm worried about is my iTunes library, I don't think it'll preserve the star ratings when I rebuild my library... which will suck. I'm gonna make a few playlists so hopefully I can update the ratings faster if I need to....

Yeah, you can see it right there. 32 gig iPod Touch, surprisingly affordable. My predictions about solid state memory going down in price are holding up. I still say that we'll have a 128 gig MacBook Air by September (and $400 price drop on the current model... yeah I'm getting cocky and I love it!). If the prices drop this summer I'll officially be starting my told you so dance.

Macbook Air, so hot

For those of you who haven't seen it yet, I won't waste any time. Click here. For the rest of you: I think I know where my next $3000 is going. Holy crap this thing is the exact definition of what a laptop should be.

For years I've been asking why bother make a laptop that isn't either a) completely portable (ie. under 4 lbs!) or b) a more or less portable powerhouse computer. I always said that anything else was a waste of money. I wept bitter tears when they discontinued my beautiful 12" MacBook Pro recently, and this year I vowed to wait until I graduate before I get a laptop, that way solid state drives will be available on something other than Alienware gaming laptops....

Painfully boring evening

Wow that sure wasn't any fun at all... just spent an entire evening fixing models while waiting for various Windows functions to load... the registry collapsed on our family computer.

So for all the incredibly complicated ways for the Eagle to break, it picked a really boring one. The cracks in the flying stand completely gave out when I got the model home. So I had to snap off the peg, drill out the part stuck in the base, drill out the belly of the bird, touch up around the drilling, glue on a new peg and do yet more touchups. While I was doing this, I glued magnets to the bases of all the archers so that they can stick to magnetic movement trays. What a fun way to pass the time while repairing horrible Windows errors that inevitably cause new and exciting restart loops....

Rejoicing in Athel Loren

Woohoo, first game of the campaign is a massacre for the Wood Elves! I had to fight Bretonians too, which was making me nervous. In the end, my feint on the right flank with the Wardancers bought me enough time to whittle down the two units of Knights with my Glade Guard archers.

In the end the key to victory was stalling him as long as possible. I held him at arm's length for a while and eventually my Wardancers got a chance to get into combat. They soaked a charge admirably using the 4+ Ward dance, and then kicked in the killing blow next turn when they were striking first. After the Knights of the Realm and their Paladin were gone, then they mopped up the Knights Errant that butchered my archers on the far flank. The peasants ran away untouched and my Wardancers dragged home three banners and the heads of two overzealous Bretonian characters. That'll teach them to stay off the grass!...
