Well i've always been a big fan of Games Workshop and i started collecting their minis when i was around 11-12 years old but never really enjoyed painting them. Then after a short while i stopped collecting and went off to university and studied, but found i had more and more time as i progressed through education. In my final years of my PhD i started to pick up painting again and i've been doing it ever since, on and off. I love learning new techniques and having cool models to use. My one policy is i refuse to play with any unpainted models, hence why i play so little and paint so much now.

Ok another update on this army building. I've been trying to practice my gold nmm and get it better, i have found that as im doing more i and slowly developing a good feel for where highlights are placed for a decent looking nmm. I like how these marines have come out and each one has taken me about 3 days each. I put my first and original one in the back for comparison. As a unit they look pretty good, working on the sorcerer but i need to put together the rest of the army and that will help me vary my painting routine. Anyway comments and criticisms are welcome and on request i can put up some closer pics of the individual marines....

Well a new update to an old project. Here is a thousand sons marine where i tried taking the nmm to an even better quality than what i've been doing. I reduced the amount of yellow in the mix and more in the brown and white area for the gold nmm, Im really happy with how it looks. Anyway enough of boring you all, here are the pics.

Well after a few more nights of painting this dude, i have reached a point where im happy with him alot. The grey NMM on the backpack i tried not to put too much emphasis on it so that the focal point isn't taken away from the main part of the model too much. I think its worked well. The whole effect of the model is nice and i've tried to improve my contrast in colours and i think i've learnt alot painting this mini. Constructive comments and criticisms are always welcome.

Ok for a big tutorial kinda. I apologise for the images initially, since photography has never been my strong suit. It does show my errors in painting but it can all be cleaned up. But you can see my blending isnt as smooth as i like.

So i started on a brass/gold colour for the handle of the model. A base coat of scorched brown, don't worry about being too neat as you can always tidy up at different stages.

I finished the bulk of the red on the character and im relatively happy with how he looks at the moment, im particularly pleased how the red and grey compliment each other so well. The hard task after cleaning this up a bit is doing the backpack and servo arms. I want to create a slightly different colour tone to the model with it, which doesn't take away the focus of him, so i might try and keep it a dark dark grey/blue nmm on it, but we will see when i next tackle the model tomorrow.
