Best Christmas present ever!

I've been painting since about 1998, traditionally a lot of 40k stuff but lately I've been doing a lot of work with Fantasy and the odd little side project here and there. I don't game as much as I'd like, and I don't paint as much as I'd like either... but I make up for this by purchasing way more models than I ought to!

I make an effort to try new things once in a while, and every once in a while I'll actually finish something. My current project is the Warriors of Chaos, it's an attempt at doing a 2,000pt army in under 6 weeks for the Fracas tournament here in Edmonton. A $100 ticket should give me motivation to get my army done on time, I would love some tournament trophies to add to my painting awards :-) After that, who knows what I'll be up to!

Coolest model in the history of ever

Your mileage may vary, but personally I think this sculpt is perfect. I'm thrilled to finally have this model. He's Nazgrub Wurrzag, ork scrap prospector. This fig from '97 has been one of if not my absolute favorite production model, and now I own one :-)

At the moment he's chilling out on my drawing tablet, but once I figure out a scrapheap style base for him, I'll get to work painting the bugger. I plan on doing my best to emulate some of the absolutely amazing Ork skintones to come out of Games Day competitions lately. Should be fun, I've been dying to do a contest level Ork figure for a while now!...

Great Stag conversion

Had a really fun time the last week or so converting up this new Wood Elf character. I bulked out a Dark Pegasus with a pile of greenstuff, and gave him a massive rack of antlers made out of Dryad branches and many many pins. If you look carefully, he even has the boy parts alluded to in previous posts :-)

Should've kept my big mouth shut

As the title suggests, I spoke too soon re: my computer situation. It didn't stay up and running for long, it was sidelined with more crippling errors shortly after I posted that. I haven't touched it for a few days, and I plan on wiping and trying one last time before setting it on fire. I'm probably not even kidding, it would be so incredibly satisfying...

Anyway I've used my week off (spring break woo!) pretty well so far. I've done like 2 hours of reading for school and put probably 6 hours of gaming and 12+ hours of modelling in so far. I have 4 Treekin WIP, 1 finished, 2 almost finished, and one freshly purchased today. The big project at the moment is a Noble on Great Stag conversion. I used a mountain of greenstuff on Morathi's Dark Pegasus to turn it into a bulky hairy beast and I must say it's looking impressive. I need to bulk out the front legs and make him a worthy rack of antlers tomorrow and he'll be ready for priming....

Define "productivity" ...
(4) comments,   (0) trackbacks

Productivity is a tricky word to define sometimes. Tonight, for example, I got this much work done on my Wardancer Noble before I got finished the first page of a term paper in Comparative Literature.

I still have a lot of work to do on the paper, so I won't dwell on the definition of productivity for too long... surely there's some wiggle room to accomodate the important things in life, like Wood Elves?...

Wood Elf army progress
(0) comments,   (0) trackbacks

Well I'm happy to say that things are still going well in the campaign for me, I'm 3-0 with nothing but Massacre results so far. Granted it's extremely hard to tie in games of 500-700 points, where killing a single unit and capturing its banner is enough for an easy win. At any rate I find myself in first place out of 17 players, and that means that in 2 weeks when we meet again I will have a bonus 100 points for my army.

Things like that are good news/bad news for me, since I have to paint models any time I want to add something to my force. For the next set of games I would like to repair and touch up my Wild Riders, and probably buy/paint one more guy to add to the unit. I will also be adding 15 Eternal Guard to the list, I painted most of the front rank while flipping between Smallville and the Superbowl this weekend. They still have a couple hours of work to do, but after that I'll have an easier time painting the back 2 ranks. The final addition to the army will be a Wardancer champion model, assuming my Mail Order comes in soon :-)...
