Best Christmas present ever!

I've been painting since about 1998, traditionally a lot of 40k stuff but lately I've been doing a lot of work with Fantasy and the odd little side project here and there. I don't game as much as I'd like, and I don't paint as much as I'd like either... but I make up for this by purchasing way more models than I ought to!

I make an effort to try new things once in a while, and every once in a while I'll actually finish something. My current project is the Warriors of Chaos, it's an attempt at doing a 2,000pt army in under 6 weeks for the Fracas tournament here in Edmonton. A $100 ticket should give me motivation to get my army done on time, I would love some tournament trophies to add to my painting awards :-) After that, who knows what I'll be up to!

Army in a box (a little box)

I've shown these guys off once or twice before, but I can't stress enough how awesome these little trays can be for sorting out parts. You can get them at the Dollar Store, usually the walls between compartments pop out so you can fit big bits like flag poles and spears and stuff with ease.

I finally finished clipping all my Wood Elf bitz and sorting them. Here you can see the ~30 Glade Guard, all the parts to make a few dozen Deamonette/Dryad models, 8 Glade Riders plus a ton of characters and leftover metal guys (Eternal Guard, Waywatchers, and the likes)....

Blood Ravens Color Recipes

I've been asked what colors I used on my Captain, so I guess this is the best place to post :) Nice and public so everyone can see it. Here's the newest shot, with a bit more work done. Mostly on the chest and shield.

The armor was done with P3 Sanguine Base, shaded with a wash or two of my Scorched Brown/Black mixture. I then hilighted with Scab Red, Red Gore, then Red Gore with a bit of Fiery Orange in it. All hilights were feathered to keep it smooth without having to do a ton of mixing....

Another Master of the Fleet Update

Probably the last update for a couple days at least, I'm really getting behind on schoolwork :P

Remind me to stop trying to blend colors with Foundation Paints, it's a miserable experience. Orkhide Shade is the nicest green I've seen in ages but it's really painstaking trying to blend with it. The cloaks on these captains will be the death of me....

Master of the Fleet Update

Hey everybody, I had a second sitting with the Captain today, fairly brief but I think I settled my issues with the color scheme.

Ravens0002.jpg

Blood Ravens characters from the Dawn of War game had a lot of bronze/gold on them and I figured out how I want to do my HQ models now. From the elbow and knees down will be bronze, leaving the core of the model and the shoulder pads pretty much standard. Maybe I'll add a little bit of bronze to the backpacks as well, instead of having them just red and black....

Master of the Fleet

Back again, got a few hours of painting in today. Also did a lot of cleaning/arranging my desk which is nice... I think I can actually be productive now without so much clutter.

Anyway I have pictures of the first model for the Blood Ravens, this guy is one of the new Masters of the Chapter models, the Master of the Fleet to be precise.
