  1. A tale of four armies.

So, at the end of 2012, after an 18 year break, I returned to painting minis. I used to get a big kick out of Warhammer and 40k, but never quite had the funds to do it properly. Now, despite GW's prohibitive prices, I'm in a much better position financially, and have more patience to try and do things properly.

In the last few months, my mini collection has pretty much exploded. I found a load of old minis in the shed, and combined with my new purchases, have kicked off four armies. ...

    Almost done!

Some more folds in the boots are missing, and I´ll rebuild the sword, turned out a bit short.
  3. Happy new year!

    Hi folks,

I have not been on my blog for a while as i have been having a bit of a bad time of it with my Cronh's disease and not had the impetus to paint.

However over xmas i bought myself the GW ultimate paint set, finally GW have released a paint set that tidies away easly and is easy to find paints at a glance. so i plumped for it.

Having every colour at hand is very liberating and i have been playing with diff colours i have not normally used, along ...

    Post 4: Finishing the base

For this post, the photo's don't realy need explaining.
I tried using weathering powders on the barrel and tank trap, as I had not used them before.

I am quite happy with the end result.
The blending of colour in the greens of the beam haven't come out at all in the photo, so perhaps they are too understated. ...
  7. Day 1: Landing.

It has been many great lengths of time that I have had the privilege to chase after a hobby I one thought all of but had vanished before my very eyes. The time has come back again, in a full circle to myself anew. Fires will be set and the paints of old splattered across the sky depicting the very carnage that will be in my wake....Soon marines... Soon.
  8. Alternative mount design for Doom scythe post 3

    Post 3: Explosion and Undercoating.

Sand and stone were added with the help of some PVA, and I then modelled the explosion using green-stuff modelling clay.

Not a very technical piece of sculpting work, and not something I am good at, but fit for purpose.

Next I under-coated the base, and started thinking about the colour scheme.

  9. Alternative mount design for Doom scythe post 2

    Post 2: Creating the base.

A router with a round-over edge forming bit, was used on the top side of the base.
I then used a Dremmel multi to carve out a groove, from where the rod exits the wood to the edge of the base.
This will help model the destruction caused by the passing of the "death ray"

A few inches of the rod on the end that will attach to the model, was re-shaped using a grinder.
The idea was to create an ...
  10. Alternative mount design for Doom scythe

Post 1: Design and mock up
This latest project started with the idea of converting a doom scythe kit, to make it more personal.
After some thought I decided to do as I had with my Night scythe and make an interesting base.
The main role of this flyer is to strafe the battlefield with its crudely named "death ray" so I wanted to have the model doing just tha

After some thought, and playing around with the kit, I realised the only way to do this was to completely redesign ...
