Best Christmas present ever!

I've been painting since about 1998, traditionally a lot of 40k stuff but lately I've been doing a lot of work with Fantasy and the odd little side project here and there. I don't game as much as I'd like, and I don't paint as much as I'd like either... but I make up for this by purchasing way more models than I ought to!

I make an effort to try new things once in a while, and every once in a while I'll actually finish something. My current project is the Warriors of Chaos, it's an attempt at doing a 2,000pt army in under 6 weeks for the Fracas tournament here in Edmonton. A $100 ticket should give me motivation to get my army done on time, I would love some tournament trophies to add to my painting awards :-) After that, who knows what I'll be up to!

WTF took you so long?

Yep, I know it's hard to believe but I actually finished a model! My first one since Games Day, as sad as that is. I pretty much coasted all summer, lost motivation for any army projects, got sidetracked by a University semester with 5 senior-level Comparative Literature courses, had a bit of an existential funk for a while, and suffice it to say none of this was conducive towards painting miniatures. Enough talk, here's the pics!

When the new Space Marine stuff came out a few months ago, I picked up a few goodies for the Blood Ravens. A Drop Pod, Pedro Kantor, and a buttload of Sternguard Veterans to be precise. Kantor is mostly converted at this stage... I hacked the bastard to pieces, ground off all the Fist iconography, and haven't quite gotten around to greenstuffing on some chapter badges and whatnot for the Ravens. Definitely a more dynamic pose though, using the legs I carefully removed from the Games Day 2008 figure. I guess it's more accurate to say that I removed the torso from the legs... you can see the pile of shredded pewter in the first pic. I actually broke my clippers in half cutting away all that spare material. Luckily it was a Craftsman tool so I got a free replacement :-)

Tonight, in a really stupid move, I picked up my old Voland's Venators unit that has been sitting in my display case nothing but a coat of primer for about a year or so. I always loved the models, and wanted to add a bit of variety to my Dogs of War army, but somehow never painted the models. Well nothing makes you want to paint like staying up all night working on essays. So far I've finished about 35% of the unit, and 35% of the paper as well. Sadly I am not being graded on my Voland's Venators.

No, really, you got get your priorities straight. Being sidetrack by some University, shame on you :) Welcome back!

It's good to be back :-) Next semester will be my last, and it's only part-time. 2 classes and I've got my shiny $25k piece of paper!
