Best Christmas present ever!

I've been painting since about 1998, traditionally a lot of 40k stuff but lately I've been doing a lot of work with Fantasy and the odd little side project here and there. I don't game as much as I'd like, and I don't paint as much as I'd like either... but I make up for this by purchasing way more models than I ought to!

I make an effort to try new things once in a while, and every once in a while I'll actually finish something. My current project is the Warriors of Chaos, it's an attempt at doing a 2,000pt army in under 6 weeks for the Fracas tournament here in Edmonton. A $100 ticket should give me motivation to get my army done on time, I would love some tournament trophies to add to my painting awards :-) After that, who knows what I'll be up to!

Psychology of Aesthetics... cool class, big projects

Just thought I'd keep you guys posted about how things are going so far... I'm happy with the progress so far with my big project for Uni, but it's still gonna take up pretty much all my day off tomorrow. Shame too, I was looking forward to sneaking some painting in there.

I currently have to finish up some more sketches and then do one more polished work (a portrait) for my creative project, documenting the process as I go and then doing an additional 4 pages of critical analysis of the artwork and/or my creative process. Right now I have about a half dozen sketches finished and 4 pages of commentary written up. All my reference photos are printed out and waiting by my desk, so it's just a matter of sitting down for an hour or two and doing some more portrait work. My goal is to be working on the analysis by supper time, because it's all super easy once I get the sketches over with.

Overall I've really enjoyed the project, it's been a fun way to expand my artistic skillset (painting minis and pencil drawing are completely different). Doing stuff in Photoshop with my shiny new Wacom tablet is really fun as well, even though I'm nowhere near good at it to submit anything for university credit. It's pretty awkward drawing on the little pad and having your image show up five times the size on your monitor. Keeping proportion just seems to be harder... oh well I just need practise!
