Best Christmas present ever!

I've been painting since about 1998, traditionally a lot of 40k stuff but lately I've been doing a lot of work with Fantasy and the odd little side project here and there. I don't game as much as I'd like, and I don't paint as much as I'd like either... but I make up for this by purchasing way more models than I ought to!

I make an effort to try new things once in a while, and every once in a while I'll actually finish something. My current project is the Warriors of Chaos, it's an attempt at doing a 2,000pt army in under 6 weeks for the Fracas tournament here in Edmonton. A $100 ticket should give me motivation to get my army done on time, I would love some tournament trophies to add to my painting awards :-) After that, who knows what I'll be up to!

Wood Elf army updatage

Just a bit of a teaser, but I put in a couple of hours of work tonight for my army (well like 6 to be honest). I wanted to paint, but I mostly ended up drilling, pinning, and sculpting wood grain and feathers. Not the most fun I've had in ages (in fact I think I have a blister on my thumb from the pin vise... knurled grips suck!) but at least I got some good work done.

I bulked out the Wardancer Champion's base to be fitting for a Noble... yep the cool dude perched on a tree stump with 2 swords will be the Noble and I'm mail ordering the jump kick Champion to lead the squad. Cooler pose, but he has a spear and the only Wardancer magic weapon is a pair of matched swords... kinda limited my options!

The real cool part of the night was my ready for primer Giant Eagle, who is known among the Asrai as "Giant Magnetized Lord of the Rings Eagle of Doom!" As you may have guessed, he is giant, his wings are magnetized for storage/travel concerns, and he is in fact a Lord of the Rings model. I had one in the closet from years ago, and the official Warhammer Giant Eagle is mail order exclusive (and $35 for some reason, wtf!). He'll arrive in a few weeks along with 1-2 other figs for later on in the campaign.

Many thanks to my buddy Aaron who's generously paid for most of my new Wood Elf figs (including some Treekin!), in exchange for promises of future Tau/Khemri boxes from my stash. Couldn't do it without ya buddy :-) Pics coming later, it's bloody late!

I got the start of my wood elf army for Christmas. So far I have the battalion box, the wild riders box, a spell singer and the noble with great weapon. However it will probably be ages until I get started on them. I still have most of my daemonhunters to paint, my skaven army to finish prepping and then painting, and a Tau army to put together and so on. I'll probably just have to start painting them all at the same time, alternate painting units from each army, although I'm such a slow painter that I think I've got the next 20 years worth of projects for myself. Oh, and I'll be painting other stuff I'll buy as well. Still, I'd like to see your army when it's finished. It's going to look damn fine on the gaming tables.

Thanks Roger, it's really a good feeling to get some units finished to share. I think I'll take some time to take photos Thursday afternoon, I have a few hours in the afternoon to spare. Failing that, I have nothing but 4-day weekends with my rockin university schedule, so that should offer enough time to set up for some pics :-) Good luck with your pile of armies, I have a couple other ones I should be working on too. That's a lot of weight on your shoulders.
