<p><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">Ok, so I'm kind of a whore for Skaven. There I said it! I can't help myself. It was the first army I started collecting back in the mid 80's, so, needless to say, I've amassed a rather large force of Skaven. I was almost beside myself when the new 7th ed. list was released and I got my first glimps at it. That was it, I had to have it. I went through it the minute I got it and loved every part of it......until recently. </span></span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">The other day I pulled the Skaven army list out, gave it a good dust off and began going through it again. I realized a major problem with one of the characters. </span></span></span><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">Deathmaster Sknitch w</span><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">ith a weapon skill of 8 he's well suited to take on lords or special characters. His 6 attacks are high enough that he has a good chance of hitting his opponent, and his weapons being made of warp stone cause a decent d3 wound to all unsaved wounds. Also the "always strikes first" rule coupled with Sknitch's initive of 10 means Sknitch is almost guaranteed to strike first in a combat. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">All of this sounds great on paper or coming out of your mouth to inspire fear of loss for your opponents most powerful character, but the reality is that Sknitch will only be a liability of shame for you. The unspoken failure of Sknitch is his strength. With a strength of 4 Deathmaster Sknitch is sorely lacking the power to follow through on the above threats. His lacking strength modifier means that most, if not all, of his attacks will be saved by the much more superior saves of his opponents, and never mind trying to take out a special character like Girmgore or the rest of those out there with their 1+ saves. You can also kiss off killing Dwarf Lords, Bretonian Kings, High Elf Lords, Froggy Masters of the lizard men, Orcs, Vampires, and pretty much anything else. Even if you get them to finally fail an armor save most of them get a ward save as well so&nbsp;chances are good that you can count those wounds out. These characters will usually survive. If you follow the laws of averages, which is usually half, you should expect half of your attacks to hit and half of those hits to wound. Leaving me with a staggering 1 possible wound that has a minus 1 on the save. Not a stunning killer if you ask me. And I'll say this, there is nothing like seeing your opponents face change from fear to absolute hysterical laughter at you failing to wound on six attacks.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;<span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">How did I get this number you might be asking yourself? Well that&rsquo;s easy. 6 attacks halved is 3 and 3 hits halved is 1.5, but I can't have a point 5 wound so I would have to round up or down to get this solved. Since Sknitch has a strength of 4 versus most lords toughness, which is usually a 5, means that I would have to roll 5's to wound giving me a 2 in 6 chance of success. Not that great is it? So I always round down for the weakness. Sure you could get higher hit counts, but you still have to deal with the weak strength modifier and high armour saves.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">Thanks to the warp stone addled minds of the GW design team Sknitch lost the one item that gave him the ability to strike fear in your opponent heart. The bands of power. It doesn't even exist in the army list anymore. Without that Sknitch is well suited for killing mass numbers of rank and file but that&rsquo;s about all. My overall assessment is do yourself the favor and save the points. You can buy the model as it rocks, but forget playing it unless you plan on going up against other skaven.......or goblins!!</span></p>
