Holy Crap!!! A W.I.P?!?!?

Howdy!

Yes you read it correctly a WIP!  My first EVER.  This is a parvusmachina blog exclusive!  No where else will you see this, not even on my own site!

Anyways, so I am currently working on a commission of three Khor knights of Uren.  They minis came out of the box with minimal mould lines (impressive!).  How ever, one of the boars had mis-cast tusks!  No problem, I thought to myself, I've got plenty of bits and I am sure I have something suitable I put in place of the deformed tusks.  Sure enough!   I had a chaos champion head with horns on the helm that I thought would look pretty cool on the boar.  Below are some pics of what they looked like when in place.

Here is a side view:

Sorry if the pic is a bit big.  I am a little rusty at updating sites of any kind!

And here is a front on view:

I thought the tusks made the boar look hella tough!  But alas, as I was sculpting on some fur on the belly to hide the gap, one of the tusks broke off, rather easily I might add! I had even let them dry over night!  I was NOT a happy camper after this.  So I pondered what the heck to do!  After digging aroung in my bitz box, I came up with three possible solutions.

  1. I had a the gut plate from an Ogre tyrant with two tusks protruding from it that I could clip off and use.
  2. The Ogre standard from the Iron Guts box.  That had tusks I could use as well!
  3. Sculpt my own.  THIS was an absolute last resort as my sculpting skills are beginner at best!

So I opted for #2 first.  After some trimming and measuring, I ended up with results that I could live with.  After gluing them on, I saw that the angles of my cuts left a small gap between the tusk and the lower jaw of the boar.  Now how was I going to fix that?!?!

I fell back on my oldest and best used trick.  Whenever I add something or mod a mini, I am usually left with a gap or two that I just can't get to look right.  I have learned over the years that jeweler's chain is the best thing to use to cover those unsightly gaps!  Below are the results.  I have it pinned to a Gerber baby food jar lid for easier handling when painting.

I really like these tusks better.  The other ones were pretty over the top, but these just fit better with the rest of the unit.

So after getting this one done, I moved on to the rider and the other two knights with their mounts as well.  Both were moulded VERY well, littl to none on the scale for mould lines.  Tomorrow I will have to fill in some gaps with green stuff.  Then next week I can start painting!!  Man I can't WAIT!

Till then, thanks for stopping by the blog.  Don't forget to check out my site http://www.parvusmachina.com for some cool swag deals and pics of the final product.  You can also find prices for commission work, I also have other galleries up for non-mini related art work.
