I usually do as long as the stupid "bandwidth" mistake isn't on (usually mornings and evenings). What I think is probably possible is to install some heavy cannon inside the body and "upgrade" it to either gun-wagon (Forgeworld rules) or "looted wagon". For the cannon, well , Forgeworld cannons (either) should be off the right size, possibly trimmed earthshaker or slightly modified battle cannon would fit as well. I've heard the rumor (from GW dude) that GW has a battle-wagon in work but he didn't know when it'll be released.
The option for the trukk are these: red paint job, grot riggers, stikkbomb chucka, armor plates, boarding plates, wrecking ball, reinforced ram. The kit comes with all but the stikkbomb chukka and grot riggers. No rules for 'ard case. The big shoota is the only option for weapons according to the rules. I would think this models too small to be considered a battlewagon on int's own though. Just a little larger than a rhino. As for converting, It's very accessible to conversion. It's kin of a n open slate. I'm building this one stock so as to get familiar with it and have another on the way that I'll feel better about butchering a bit. Thaks for checking it out here!
I am watching this one with great interest... I will be doing this thing probably in a month or something. How convertible it is? What do they have for weapons for this truck? Can you, for example make a battlewagon out this one, by, say, putting some heavy weapon on the top. Is it alway open-topped or there is an option for making it covered?
One of the most exciting changes to the new codex, in my opinion. Makes my Big Guns that much more viable - now I have to paint them! BS 3 Rokkets!
Yeah, I thought of that as soon as I posted it...
Thanks for the links skeeve! The colors/effect on the white tank is exactly what I'm looking for. I actually have some of these left over from my military modeling days, although I never worked on a white vehicle. I suppose my apprehension is based on scaling the effect down correctly as I know how easily overdoing it can affect the effect. (weird, I don't think I've ever used those two in the same sentance before...affect/effect)
Hehe, take a look at my comments about weathering in your previous post. I think dry pigments are very appropriate for this one
The idea is great. I don't know why so few use metallic contrast for those. However, it is too shiny, either because of flash or because of varnish. I would give it a simple neutral wash with something very dilute brown (not ink). It will not affect colors but should take care of reflections. Weathering... I am actually also all over weathering nowadays but not on vehicles. take a look at those... http://www.internethobbies.com/seofpi.html and this http://ultrawerke.blogspot.com/2007/03/painting-and-weathering-tutorial-part-i.html and our lovely discussion in here http://www.40konline.com/mos/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=861&topic=149516.0 The base I have in my blog was painted using these pigments
Thanks for the compliment, :) taken in the correct context, of course! I'm working up the courage to do that next - after all the work that went into it so far, I'm almost afraid of ruining it. There's no gain without risk though.
Nice lookin Kan :D Not often you can say that without getting slapped... anyway I think the Kan would look great with some weathering on it. Washes of browns and oranges are pretty quick and easy, and get the job done pretty quick. A bit of patina on the coppery/gold parts could look great too. I'm totally a sucker for rust/weathering these days.
This one came from the Ork Nobz box. This one twin-linked would be pretty cool.
Question if I may. Where did big shoota piece came from? I am looking for two tween-linked ones and this one look pretty scary.
I'm with NSA as well. I think that is a part of what is being judged (for me at least) is the over all submission. If that submission is a unit of 16 troops, in a cohesive unit, with standards, and all tha jazz. . .I'll up the score. The whole group can be worth more as a finished project than eash individual on it's own might be. :)
yeah i agree the new orks are great. the bikes are over the top and the trukk looks like it was borrowed from mad maxx.:) i should just start working for GW cause they have my check more often than not . lol
I agree with you No Such Agency and I as well take this into account when I grade a particular entry. It is hard to keep a certain standard when doing many, many models (as I'm trying to do with a large ork army) so I do score higher for those, myself.
Keep in mind that a lot of people consider that finishing a whole unit to, say, a 7 standard deserves a bonus for consistency and hard work, therefore will vote 8. A unit of 8's is a 9 etc. It's out of respect for the sheer difficulty of painting a whole group this well. But yes, a group posting will hurt a truly superb model simply because it will be harder to appreciate its special qualities.
I noticed that too, but I mostly attributed to lack of image processing software (or lack of skills). In general it is almost impossible to post decent submission without making a composite image and some people either don't know how to do it or just don't bother. As for the opposite effect of multiple submissions on average scoring models vs high scoring the reason, I think is purely mathematical. If you assume that you scoring scale is infinite any score would be distributed near-normally (almost "bell"-curve). Our scale is limited by 10, so you simply cannot go more "up" and you distribution will be immediately skewed to the left (toward lower scores).
