Origins was this past weekend and with it the Road To Crystal Brush as well. For me, it was an exciting convention because I got to have my first go as a judge for a miniature painting contest, the Crystal Brush.
I have been spending the last several months studying under the amazing Jen Haley learning how to be a better painter and also what to look for in a competition piece. Not only is this a lot of fun, but I get to put my art degree and painting knowledge to the test with things like composition and color theory. This comes I handy when I sit down to make a competition piece as well.
Judging isn't an easy task, and I certainly felt the weight of what I had to do for the Crystal Brush. It's good to know I always have back-up, since I can bug Jen for some advice while judging.I had a lot of fun and it was an excellent learning experience as well as a way to make new friends!
Here were the overall winners- (left to right)Billy Cory in second, Kim Goforth in first and James Moore in third. Thank you to everyone that submitted and entry and put up with my small talk at the awards ceremony! You guys rock!
As always, feel free to add me as a friend and join me on Facebook- www.facebook.com/miniaturemistress. I love to talk shop and paint minis!
